This project was for a photography course I took in the fall of 2012 while at USC. The theme for the project was Culture Jamming. I decided to photograph my friends and crop out the characteristics that would give away their gender; clothing, hair, body shape ect. I wanted to see what would happen when I laid the images out into a grid. The image on the left was the result. When I showed the image to the class I had them guess the gender of each person in the image. Surprisingly they got a number of them wrong. I was able to blur the lines between genders and show the facial similarities and differences between each sex with some simple cropping. The image below show other portraits from that same shoot.
